6.1 Identify and plan professional learning needs
Performance and development plan (2022)
As part of my PDP, I outlined my goals and identified what I needed/wanted to improve on. I had a meeting with my line manager about this, where we discussed strategies for achieving these goals.
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
HaSS SA conference certificate (2022)
When I attended the HaSS SA conference this year, I engaged in multiple workshops such as how to teach sources analyses, how to include South Australian history into our units, and a lecture on the history of Ukraine, as well as how we could include it into our teaching.
6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practice
SAGTA conference certificate (2021)
At the SAGTA conference in 2021, I was able to attend a range of workshops of how to engage students in learning a second language, specifically the German language, as well as being informed of a range of resources that can be used in my classes. Within these workshops, I was able to discuss these strategies and resources to improve my personal professional knowledge and practice.
I also collaborate with colleagues within the school to develop and improve scope and sequencing (refer to Standard 3.2 and Standard 3.6), as well as moderation (refer to Standard 5.3).
6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning
BSEM certificates (2021)
Last year the school provided two full-day professional development days, where guests from Berry Street came to talk about the Berry Street Education Model. The specific building blocks we looked at and were provided with strategies for were Stamina & Engagement, and Character. Some of the strategies that I have implemented are having restorative conversations and ready to learn plans. I have implemented restorative conversations on multiple occasions when I have spoken to students after an incident to try and understand why they behaved in a certain way, and try to help the understand why I implemented a certain consequence (i.e. staying in at recess or lunch). I have also encouraged my year 9 Yungkurrinthi Marni class to upload their ready to learn plans, so that if there ever is an incident, a teacher can look on their Daymap to help regulate them in certain situations.
